James Raderson, on his Guardian blog, reports that Richard Dawkins is being challenged by a self promoting Turkish ‘scholar’ (?) Harun Yahya (but his real name is Adnan Oktar – no wonder he uses a pseudonym – he was recently sentenced by the Turkish courts to three years in prison “for creating an illegal organization for personal gain“) to a public debate on Darwinism.
A few months back my colleague Andrew sent me an electronic copy of a new monthly publication (unfortunately I pressed the delete button and can’t now remember the name of this publication) for the ethnic minorities in Glasgow, which had a page reserved to promoting Yahya’s theory that ‘Darwinism’ and evolutionary theory, are incompatible with the belief in a Creator God.
I don’t usually write to editors, but this time I felt ‘insulted’ (those who read shall understand) and I wrote a letter to the editor objecting at the imbalanced coverage of evolution theory. I never received an acknowledgement, nor was my letter published, as I continued to receive further PDF copies of the publication (obviously via Andrew). The editor might have been surprised by my letter as the targeted readership of Yahya’s article was obviously Muslim readership.
I am sure Dawkins will not respond to this challange, but here you are, the Christian Creationists (wrongly in my opinion calling temselves creationists) have their allay in Yahya. I was impresed though that Dawkins did write a short ‘review‘ on Yahya’s book Atlas on Creation on his site.
